When teat cup liners begin to age, their shape and surface condition can start to change. There are also detrimental effects on their milking features. Outdated milking liners can result in the following issues:
• The average time to milk each cow increases
• Liners slip more frequently
• More milk remains in the quarters of an udder when the cups are removed
• Teat-end problems become worse
• Cows can start behaving badly
• Coming off of the milking claw
Worsening teat-end condition and frequent liner slips can also increase the risk of mastitis. You’ll know you waited too long to change your liners if there is a noticeable improvement in milking performance after you replace them.
